What does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractors treat pain and movement problems arising from muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments.
At Forest Edge Chiropractic in Ringwood, we use evidence-informed, hands-on care combined with exercise and education to help people understand their condition, reduce pain, and move with confidence again.
Chiropractic and other manual therapies
Chiropractors are trained to use hands-on techniques to treat pain and dysfunction arising from muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. While chiropractic traditionally focused on manual techniques, modern chiropractic care uses a range of approaches to help people recover from musculoskeletal pain.
There is significant overlap between the manual therapy professions — including chiropractors, osteopaths, and physiotherapists. No single treatment technique belongs exclusively to one profession. What matters most is not the job title, but finding a clinician who can explain your condition clearly, help you feel at ease, and support your recovery effectively.
When deciding whether to see a chiropractor or another manual therapist, personal recommendation is often the best guide. Don’t worry too much about the name on the door — focus on finding someone you trust.
Evidence-informed chiropractic care in Ringwood
Here at Forest Edge Chiropractic in Ringwood, we combine extensive clinical experience with the latest scientific evidence to provide care that is safe, effective, and tailored to you. We take time to understand your symptoms, your goals, and what feels right for you, so your care is always personalised.
Techniques we use
Treatment is individual and based on clinical assessment. Techniques we commonly use include:
Joint manipulation and/or mobilisation
Massage, stretching, and active release of soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, fascia, and ligaments
Acupuncture (also known as medical acupuncture or dry needling) to help with pain and muscle spasm
Exercise prescription to rehabilitate injuries, improve strength and movement, and reduce the risk of recurrence
We’ll always explain what we’re doing and why, and nothing happens without your consent.
Chiropractic care for back and neck pain
Joint manipulation has been shown to be helpful for back pain and neck pain, particularly when combined with other treatments. The World Health Organisation recently updated its guidelines for the treatment of chronic lower back pain. We’re pleased to know that the treatments we most commonly use at Forest Edge Chiropractic — including massage, dry needling, manipulation, and exercise prescription — are consistent with the approaches supported by current international guidance.

Many people are confused about whether they should see a chiropractor, an osteopath or a physiotherapist. All three professions help people with back pain, neck pain, and musculoskeletal issues, but their training and approach can differ. At Forest Edge Chiropractic in Ringwood, what sets us apart is our focus on listening, explaining, and adapting techniques to suit each individual. We use a wide range of evidence-informed methods — from adjustments and mobilisation to massage, dry needling, and exercise advice — so you get a treatment plan that is tailored to you.

Chiropractic is very safe when carried out by a registered professional. Victoria is registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and follows evidence-based guidelines. Every treatment plan is tailored to you, and we’ll discuss risks and benefits before starting care so you feel comfortable and informed.

Sadly you are not able to receive chiropractic treatment via the NHS. We work hard to keep our prices as low as we can, and our treatments as effective as possible so as to minimise the cost to you.

At Forest Edge Chiropractic, we charge £60 for the initial consultation. This takes about an hour, and we ask lots of questions, do a physical examination, explain what’s causing your symptoms and what your treatment options are, and then (providing you choose to go ahead) deliver your first treatment.
Our follow up treatment appointments are 30 minutes, and cost £43.

Yes, absolutely! We’re really pretty good at finding out exactly where the disc is causing problems, delivering manual therapy to help with your symptoms, and suitable exercises to help you strengthen your back to get you back to your normal daily life and work.

Not at all. The “clicking” sound that sometimes happens during a chiropractic adjustment is simply gas being released in the joint — similar to clicking your knuckles. If you prefer not to have this type of treatment, there are many other effective techniques we can use, such as gentle mobilisation, soft tissue work, dry needling, or exercise advice. We’ll always respect your preferences.
